Alaska Backcountry Skiing

How's The Snow?

The Chugach Mountains offer some of the finest skiing in the world. The peaks are tall and steep and the powder is stupid-deep. The back-county of the Chugach Mountain Range is not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced, this is an untamed wilderness just waiting to get tracked by you. Access by Super-Cub opens the Chugach Mountains to those who can't afford a helicopter.

When Should I Go?

March 15 through May 15 offers the best snow conditions during the longest daylight hours. Matt is a pilot who loves to ski, and he know some awesome lines. Plan on at least three days for drop-off trips. The Super-Cub will drop you off and pick you up as well as help you scope some lines from the air. If conditions are good, he may be able to shuttle skiers to the tops of various mountains for some easy vertical.

How Much Does It Cost?

Cost varies greatly due to the vastness of the range. Prices start at $210 per person for a drop-off only. Drop-off's can be one-way, meaning you ski out to the road system when you are done (good cheap option). A pick-up can be scheduled for an additional $210. This is a good option for more remote areas. If superior weather conditions prevail shuttling skiers may be an option as well. $210 for the first run and $100 for each run thereafter.
